Volunteer Your Time
Spring 2024 Garden Kick-off Meeting: March 24, 2pm
Location: Wallace Visitors Center, F. D. Roosevelt National Historic Site, Hyde Park, NY 12538
Everyone interested in volunteering for the FWVGA is welcome to attend and find out more.
Since the very beginning, the volunteer workers of the FWVGA have been the heart and soul of the association. We do everything from the work in the garden to raising funds, planning projects and supporting the organization. Some do it for the love of gardening, others do it to help preserve a piece of local history. It's an opportunity to contribute to the local culture as well as learn new skills and meet new people.
No gardening experience is needed in order to be a volunteer worker. We will teach you everything you need to know, as well as supply all tools and supplies. Experienced gardeners are also welcome. You'll find gardening on such a large scale to be a new challenge.
If you have a "brown thumb", never fear. There are many ways outside of the garden to help out. Donor development, marketing, and grant writing and research are only a few of the volunteer jobs available. Training in not-for-profit administration is offered regularly to people serving in board or leadership roles. Volunteering for any of these positions provides opportunities to learn new skills and develop management experience.
The FWVGA regularly recognizes the contribution of volunteer workers based on the number of hours contributed.
All volunteer worker members are also part of the National Park Service's Volunteer-in-the-Park (VIP) program. They are eligible for discounts at the Vanderbilt gift shop and free park passes based on the number of work hours contributed.
Please note: due to National Park Service regulations, all volunteers must be 18 years old or older. Anyone younger than 18 must have written permission of their parent or guardian. Please contact the NPS for more information about age requirements. https://www.nps.gov/vama/index.htm
